So Many Decisions Made Today!

Wow! It has been such a crazy fun day today! I have decided to do this and could NOT be more excited about it! I have been DYING to meet Lisa from the first day I talked to her on-line and hopefully we can get Marcy out there, too! I have decided on this half-marathon training plan that txrunnergirl is using and I think I can do it. I did another 3 today over lunch, which is the first time I have gone back-to-back days of running since last fall. So, my plan is to just majorly build base between now and 10 weeks out from the half and then follow the plan. I figure if nothing else, at least I will be on a training plan during the holidays! LOL

But here is my question...the plan calls for two days of cross-training. What counts as cross-training? Anything? I know that biking and swimming do. What about weight training? Does it have to be cardio? Help me out. I feel like Lisa with the questions :P

The other major thing that I have been doing today is planning an office party (I am such a hard worker :P) We decided that we are going to have one of those "How to Host a Murder" parties and I am so excited, I about peed my pants :P We found one that is *lawyer-themed* and perfect! After reading about all of them, it makes me just want to start having parties left and right.

looks like a lot of caffeine went into those comments! apparently cross training shouldn't be more than an hour (I don't listen to instructions well) so if you did a little cardio warm-up and then weight training you should be fine. I like the race time predictor on that training plan, I should use it...

I'm in a daze as to what to do next as far as HM's (it's weird. Half of me still thinks I'm doing my original HM, even though I'm not. . .I don't think, I'm still waiting for Jesus to come and make me ole crotchy better LOL. So I'm kind of just at a standstill). Buuuuuuuuuuttttttttt I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY want to do it!! I know I'd have to start planning ASAP because you know how things go with hotel and flights. It's been so crazy the past couple weeks with travel and John working a breakneck schedule this week that we really haven't had time to discuss things. Next week he's off though so we're going to have the sit down :P

As far as the FIRST plan goes . . . I have the book (it goes into more specifics as to what you should be doing and at what paces). Do you want me to photocopy off the plan and pace charts? They recommend biking, rowing, and swimming for cross training for that plan (not so much elliptical or stairmaster since it's using the same muscles as running)

Now I know the reasoning behind Lisa's Shout Out :P We shall discuss!!!

You guys will have a blast. I can't wait to hear all about it. Well.....as much as you will be able to tell without getting into trouble. ;-)

Very cool! Good luck with your training. Galloway says any exercise that doesn't use the calf muscle is cross training :-)

Since Lisa is running with Chad and I, does that mean you are running with us also? :) We would love to have you join us for the run. Although that is two weeks after Chad COMPLETES his first 100 miler, so we may need to carry him, or let him drop out, yea right he will probably be running circles around us. He is our pacer and mule for this race. I am looking forward to meeting you.

This is going to be very cool. If we get a few more bloggers, maybe we can have our own starting corral.

I would say that crosstraining is anything that isn't running and makes you break a sweat. In Phoenix in the summer, that includes simply waking up. Good news is you are going to be coming for the race and the perfect time of year.

Maybe we should have shirts made up for our group. I sent you an email again regarding the times.

I love the tshirt idea.

Just so we are all clear, I am going to start with all of you and then see you at the finish. No obligations for anyone to wait for pokey. :>) But I do expect lots of cheering from all of you when I finish since you will all be done and showered. :>P

Oh wait, this is Lori's blog for a minute there I made it all about me. :>)

How fun - the party and the half! Traveling to Phoenix in the middle of winter: great plan.

That sounds like a blast! You all will have so much fun. I'm a little jealous. What a way to meet up!!

After reading your post, I was going to say the same thing Marcy said about cross-training - anything that doesn't use the same muscles, since on those days you're giving your legs sort of a *break*.

Lisa, had a lot of coffee, ehhh?

The murder party sounds like a blast. I'd love to attend one of those one day. Tell us all about it!
